Get Involved! The Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES) is a member-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The success of the programs, events, and opportunities provided by MRES is due to volunteer support from our members and leadership. We invite MRES members to get involved in all of the events through becoming a member, making a donation, volunteering for committees, events, or projects, and by spreading the word. Interested in learning more about renewable energies? The Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES) offers classes in solar hot water, PV design and installation, and small-scale wind design and installation. IPS Solar and the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES) have joined efforts to build the most versatile power supply in the state. The Solar Power Trailer is both an educational tool and a fully functioning power source that can provide quiet, clean, renewable power to any site. Create a Community Solar Project A community solar project allows individuals to work together to achieve stewardship goals, to overcome the market barriers to solar investment, and to do so in a way that builds the capacity of community organizations or institutions. Community groups use the installation of a solar system to strengthen the bond that defines their community. The connection to the community is strengthened during the planning process, as part of installation of the system, and in rewarding and recognizing the community as the solar system reduces greenhouse gases, lowers energy bills, and provides a visible example of sustainability for the community in the years after installation. This guidebook serves as a planning aid to individuals, organizations, and communities who wish to be part of the solution to our society's energy dilemmas, but do not know how to take action. Are you willing to spread the word about the MRES events through your network of friends, co-workers, or local media? Contact us for more information. Solar HeroBOULDER, Colo. - (May 20, 2009) - Solar Today magazine, the print and online publication of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), recently published a story about Doug Shoemaker. Solar Today recognized Doug for the many renewable energy and community projects in which he’s been involved. As a “volunteer gone wild,” he’s become a keystone in the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES). In addition to his work for MRES, Doug now serves on about 20 renewable energy related committees and task forces. He chairs the Northland Bioneers, a sustainability group, and last year began working with 3M to help establish a Green Jobs Task Force.
