Directions to Hunt Utilities Group Campus: From Highway 371 turn west on County Road 2 on the north edge of Pine River and take a right at the wind turbine.
Designed by HUG and Architects Oldham Hirst Design of Brainerd, the manifesting building
is an inventor's prototyping shop where ideas meet the real world. It also hosts some
manufacturing, offices and a greenhouse.
• 76 hot air solar furnace panels manufactured on-site by RREAL
• 10 miles of air exchange pipe to transfer heat to the earth under the building
• R100 cellulose insulation in the ceiling; R 50 SIP panels in the walls; and a living
roof.
• Attached solar green house for future food growing and heat capture
• Ground water heat pump for backup heating.
• 14,000 sq ft building (includes a 3000 sq ft greenhouse), the heating costs from 4/08-4/
09 averaged $75 a month (a very cold winter, and most of the solar equipment was not
yet working )
