Directions to Hunt Utilities Group Campus: From Highway 371 turn west on County Road 2 on the north edge of Pine River and take a right at the wind turbine.
Four buildings on the Hunt Utilities Group resilient living campus; Old Main, Mani Shop, CobCabin, and ARC'08 offer renewable energy and energy-efficient choices. Each building is loaded with experimental aspects and is a work in progress. They are designed to help us learn how to achieve our goal of constructing buildings that heat and cool themselves, process their own water and help feed occupants. To do this, every building starts with
southern orientation, high thermal mass, and super insulation.
The Old Main Building is one of the four buildings on the HUG Campus. The 4,500-square-foot Old Main building is currently used for office, meeting and classroom space shared by our educational and outreach group-Happy Dancing Turtle (www.HappyDancingTurtle.org) and was designed and built by Hunt Utilities Group.
For this 4,500 sq ft building, the heating and cooling costs from 4/08-4/09 averaged $34 a
month.
