Solar hot water heating system located on top of a 24-unit residential apartment building tied into regular hot water heater. The goal is to produce enough hot water to reduce gas use by 800 therms a year.

  • 1 flat-plate heat exchanger
  • 2 120-gallon storage tanks
  • 2 pumps (one for the water in the tanks and one for the glycol in the solar panels
  • Controller that turns the system on if there is a 15-degree difference between the water temperature and the glycol in the solar panels
