ARC'08 was also designed by HUG and Oldham Hirst. Currently used as a residence for HUG founders Paul and Lynn Hunt, it is half research lab, half house, half office and meeting space and all interesting.
System Components
• Experimental low cost polymer hot water solar panels used as siding on south wall
• Three integrated greenhouses for passive solar gain, fresh food, and water
processing
Additional Measures• R 100 cellulose in roof. 12" SIP walls with no thermal bridges and R value of 50
• 24 inches of dirt under the floor is insulated by 10 inches of foam, R 50
• Frost line perimeter insulation in ground, four feet out, R 20
• Double windows and doors to outside untempered space
• Engineered roof trusses designed to eliminate thermal bridge at external wall/ceiling
connection
• Exceeds Passive Haus minimum air tightness standards and MN Power Triple E
standards
