The Cob-Cabin was an early, very experimental design and construction project of HappyDancing Turtle. One goal was to have zero sewer effluent, so it has a composting toilet andan experimental plant bed system to filter the black water. The cabin is currently used as alive-in test lab and a private residence.

System Components

• 440 sq ft of hot water solar panels are used to heat the cottage
• 288 sq ft of passive solar in the greenhouse

Additional Measures

• Straw bale and cob construction, including cob floor.

• Foam roof has an R value of 60. Bale walls have an net R value of 50

• Windows are thermo pane low E argon.

• Backup electric heat.
